Gresik mediarestorasiindonesia.com Public Participation Forum for the Welfare of Women and Children (Puspa) Gayatri synergizes with the Indonesian Product Shopping Movement (GERBAPI) and Srikandi Indonesian Jujitsu Institute (Iji) to hold a women’s martial arts seminar as a form of concern in forming strong and independent women.
Located at the Regent’s Hall, this activity was attended by around 20 women with professions as online motorcycle taxis.
The main focus in this activity, as stated by Handari Yektiwi Alchosih, the head of Puspa Gayatri East Java, is to deal with various forms of sexual violence and bullying that are accepted by women, especially those who become ojol nowadays.
“Seeing the amount of violence, we finally thought that these ojol friends were equipped with self-defense abilities,” he said.
It’s not enough to stop there, in the future Handari will also synergize female ojol in various cities to work in the MSME sector. Like some time ago, IWAPI, one of the LM’s under Puspa Gayatri, gave 4 groups of coffee shops to empower these women.
Deputy Regent of Gresik Aminatun Habibah who was present at that time gave full support for this activity. According to him martial arts are needed by women. Even if you are not very proficient, you can at least put pressure on your opponent on the road, so that the risk of being harassed can be reduced or lost.
“I also appreciate (you) being given self-defense so that later you will be confident, so that later maybe someone who interferes can do it (protect yourself) yourself,” he said.
This is also in line with her commitment in the form of independent women who are currently running through the Gresik Bunda Puspa Regency Government program. Where this program will focus on increasing the skills of independent business or MSMEs from women throughout Gresik, especially in villages.
“That at Bunda Puspa we provide guidance to mothers who are the backbone until they later have productive activities,” said Mrs. Min.
In the last session, female ojol were given tips for dealing with drugs from BNN. The hope is that these motorcycle taxi drivers will not be tricked into becoming drug couriers. (TLH/DOD).
