Surabaya https://mediarestorasiindonesia.co.id Menstruation is a natural thing for every woman, but often this topic is still surrounded by stigma and difficulty to discuss openly. Many women feel awkward discussing pads and menstrual care, especially due to the lack of education and negative views that are developing in society. In fact, maintaining health during menstruation is very important, both for comfort and for women’s reproductive health itself.
To change perceptions and provide proper education, on December 3, 2024, the Department of Gender Equality Movement, BEM FISIP UPN “Veteran” East Java launched a social initiative called Ganbatte. This activity began by distributing free pads in the campus women’s toilet in order to commemorate 16 Days of Anti-Violence Against Women. This activity was then continued on December 10, 2024 to refill the boxes of pads that had run out or were running low.
Through Ganbatte, the main goal is to educate women about the importance of changing pads every 4 hours. This is a step that is often overlooked, even though this habit has a big influence on our health and body comfort. There are still many women who only change pads when they feel full or uncomfortable, and often they only change pads twice a day. This habit can trigger various health problems, such as bacterial infections and skin irritation.
Why 4 Hours? It may sound simple, but changing pads regularly every four hours is very important to avoid excess moisture that can become a breeding ground for bacteria. Pads that are full and damp create an ideal environment for the growth of harmful microorganisms. Urinary tract infections, itching, and rashes on the skin can also occur if hygiene is not maintained properly. Changing pads on time also helps keep the skin dry and healthy, reducing the risk of irritation.
However, the benefits of this habit are not only about health. By maintaining cleanliness during menstruation, women can be more comfortable in their activities without feeling worried or insecure. Clean and dry pads provide invaluable comfort, allowing women to stay focused on work, study, or other activities. This is a form of self-care that also supports every woman’s self-confidence. Ganbatte invites us to change small habits that have a big impact on women’s quality of life. Maintaining menstrual hygiene will have a positive impact on the body and mind. Let’s start caring about this simple step and support each other to maintain our health and comfort. Ganbatte, for better health!.(M.A.C).
