Edu Tourism Gosari: Driving Rural Independence Toward a Self-Sustained Village

Gresik https://mediarestorasiindonesia.co.id Indonesia September 2025 Gosari Nature Tourism (WAGOS), established in 2017, has rapidly transformed into one of Gresik’s leading destinations. Under the leadership of Village Head Fathul Ulum, WAGOS has grown from a modest natural site into a thriving hub of education, recreation, and community-based empowerment.

Spread across seven hectares, with three hectares already developed, WAGOS offers a variety of attractions including swimming pools, rice-field trains, green gardens, family recreation areas, and outbound educational programs. The site also provides culinary experiences featuring local flavors, making it an inclusive and family-friendly destination.

In his remarks, Village Head Fathul Ulum stated:

“The development of Gosari Nature Tourism is a strategic step to increase village-generated revenue (PADes) while creating new jobs for our people. We hope to continue receiving support from regional and national governments so that WAGOS can grow into one of East Java’s flagship tourist destinations.”

Visitors also expressed their impressions. Wulan, a tourist from Surabaya, shared:

“Each visit feels different because new attractions are always being added. It is a perfect place for families and also gives an educational experience. I hope Gosari will continue to expand and attract more visitors from across Indonesia and abroad.”

Beyond its recreational appeal, WAGOS has become a driver of rural independence. Its management involves the local Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), village leaders, and youth organization Karang Taruna Jangkar Muda, ensuring that the local community is directly involved in decision-making and economic benefits.

Notably, Gosari is also home to the historic Butulan Cave and Gosari Inscription from the Majapahit Kingdom era — a cultural heritage site that enriches the tourism experience with history and tradition. By combining natural beauty, cultural heritage, and modern attractions, WAGOS embodies the concept of sustainable and community-based tourism.

Supported by Indonesia’s legal framework — such as Village Law No. 6 of 2014 and the National Standard for Village Tourism Management (Ministerial Regulation No. 3/2021) — Gosari’s tourism initiative is fully aligned with national strategies for rural empowerment and sustainable development.

Through synergy between the community, village government, and wider public institutions, Gosari Nature Tourism aims to become not only a national icon of educational tourism but also a model of rural economic growth and independence for Indonesia.(red).
