GMBI Gresik Marks Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday with Charity for Orphans and the Poor

Gresik https://mediarestorasiindonesia.co.id Indonesia  September 5, 2025  In commemoration of Mawlid al-Nabi, the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Indonesian grassroots organization LSM GMBI (Gerakan Masyarakat Bawah Indonesia) District Gresik held a charity event dedicated to supporting orphans and underprivileged families. The gathering, hosted at the organization’s community center in Purworejo Hamlet, Metatu Village, Benjeng Subdistrict, took place on 12 Rabiul Awwal 1447 H, coinciding with Friday, September 5, 2025.

The event featured traditional recitations of salawat (praises for the Prophet), communal prayers, and the distribution of donations to children and families in need. This initiative reflects not only the spiritual significance of the Prophet’s birthday but also the universal values of compassion, generosity, and social solidarity.

A Message of Humanity

Chairman of LSM GMBI District Gresik, Muh. Hudin, S.Pd., highlighted the importance of embodying the Prophet’s noble character through acts of kindness.

“Commemorating the Prophet’s birth is not just about remembering history. It is about living his example—caring for the poor, loving orphans, and sharing with those in need. This is the true spirit of Islam, a mercy for all creation,” Hudin said.

He emphasized that Mawlid should inspire Muslims to strengthen their faith while contributing to society through good deeds.

“Many observe sunnah fasting on Mondays, the day the Prophet was born, and increase recitations of the Qur’an and salawat. These practices bring us closer to Allah and closer to the spirit of the Prophet’s mission,” he added.

Building Compassionate Communities

The GMBI District Gresik has made weekly charity gatherings a routine, especially on Friday evenings, creating a continuous culture of giving within the community. For Hudin and his team, the commemoration of Mawlid al-Nabi this year reaffirmed their commitment to solidarity and service.

“Our doors are always open for anyone who wishes to share in this mission of kindness. We are grateful to all donors and supporters who made tonight possible. May God bless them with abundant rewards,” Hudin concluded.

Indonesia’s Example of Solidarity

Indonesia, home to the world’s largest Muslim population, continues to observe Mawlid al-Nabi with a blend of spirituality, tradition, and social action. The GMBI Gresik initiative demonstrates how local communities channel religious devotion into tangible acts of care—embodying the Prophet Muhammad’s message of mercy and compassion.red.
